Say hi to Bella and Beau. These two were found hiding in my friend Steve’s garage. Steve wanted to take them to the shelter because they already had two cats at home. Amy on the other hand wanted to keep them.
By the time they were half way to the shelter, Steve had convinced Amy that it was for the best. By the time they got to the shelter, Steve decided that two more little mouths at home wouldn’t hurt. Funny how things tend to work out.
Well, I figured that if I went after it enough, I would figure out the problems here and I did with a little help from my friend Chris in St. Paul and the tech support from my host One.com.
The last couple of days since I updated to WordPress v5.2.3 have been totally insane. Everything on the front end seemed to be working fine, or at least nobody has told me if they had any problems. The problem was with the page and post editors in the back end. When I tried to post the editor froze up tight on me after just a few words. It was the same thing with the page editor. I was ready to toss the whole thing.
Chris got me to thinking about something last night. I sent him m credentials so he could log into my site and see what was happening for himself. I deactivated all of the plugins and restarted them one at a time, and I did it three different times. Chris did the same thing with no results.
After about an hour and a half of this, he went in and looked at my theme. I really liked that 3 column layout with the right and left sidebars. DARN! He suggested that I delete out the Divi theme that I was using and reload it by FTP. I did, and boy did I ever screw up! I forgot to charge to an alternate theme when I did this and locked myself out of the dashboard. Ooops.
The tech support sent me several links to tutorials on how to change the theme in the database. Once I did that I got back into the dashboard and fixed everything. Fixing everything included deleting the Divi theme because Chris told me that the newest version wasn’t all that great. He said it was way too memory intensive. He said either strip the custom home page down to bare bones or find another theme. The bare bones version of Divi looks kinda like a page that didn’t load properly. I didn’t want that so the Divi theme is gone.
Chris also told me that he found a few bugs in the v5.2.3 that the support people at WordPress don’t want to admit exist, but they are minor and that I should update to it. I did and everything is running fine.
The last few days have definitely been a learning experience…
I have to admit that I am one of those people who still has a long list of questions about 9/11. I don’t believe that we have been told the whole truth about 9/11 and I feel that America has a right to know what really happened. These are the 9/11 links that I follow closely.
Well, Johnny had his appointment with Dr. Aluni at 2:30 this afternoon and he got a clean bill of health. He had a bad tooth that had to come out and it did, very easily. The crown of the tooth was already cracked. The vet took his little clamping tool and the whole tooth came right out.
I’ll have to give Johnny antibiotics twice a day for a week, but at least his overall health is excellent.
You might get a kick out of this. Dr. Aluni is kind of a character. He started asking me questions.
Dr: “Is she eating regularly?”
Me: “Yes he is.”
Dr: “Is she using her litter box?”
Me: “Yes he does.”
Dr: “Does she like kitty treats?”
Me: “Yes, he loves them.”
Dr: “Do you know how much she weighs?”
Me: “He weighs about 9 pounds.”
Dr: “Does she drink a lot of water?”
Me: “Some days he does.”
Dr: “Does she have a lot of energy?”
Me: “He has plenty of energy.”
The questions went on for about another 5 minutes or so. Dr. Aluni gave Johnny his first dose of the antibiotics. Just as I was leaving the office, the doctor turn to me and said “Those antibiotics will probably make HIM sleep. HE might even give you a break tomorrow morning.”
The funniest thing happened this morning. I wish I could have gotten a video this time. I did get a video of it sometime ago, but I lost it.
Johnny has this thing he does with his hind legs. He’ll backup to the door and he will rap one foot against the door 4 or 5 times, and then he’ll do the same thing with the other foot. It’s the craziest thing.
Last night I committed the one unforgivable sin in my household. I ran out of kitty treats. I think I’ve been spoiling him a little too much because he wants kitty treats.
To get my attention, Johnny backed up to me and started rapping his foot against my ribs. I busted out laughing. It was all that I could do.
Johnny is going to the vet this afternoon for his shots and his annual wellness exam. I told him that if he’s a good boy at the vet, and he usually is, I’ll see if I can’t get my driver to stop so I can pick up another supply of kitty treats.
I gave him a big hug and a kiss on top of the head. At the moment he’s licking the skin off of those ribs.
Thankfully the sciatica is finally starting to pass. I can finally get up off the couch or out of a chair without fighting.
I got a ride over to the clinic this morning to get checked again. The doctor poked and prodded at my back for a few minutes and then told me that I had sciatica. I told him that I already knew that. Then he turned me over on my side and did some more poking and prodding. I think he finally quit when he got the idea that in a minute I was going to put him in as much pain as I was feeling.
By the time I was finished, he gave me a prescription for some muscle relaxers and suggested that I go to physical therapy 3 days a week for an hour for the next three week. I suggested that I go once a week. These doctors really go overboard with physical therapy. The last time that I went through physical therapy like he first suggested, I was flat on my back for almost 3 weeks.
He sent me right over to the physical therapy department for the first appointment. I have no doubt that the therapist got her training at the Josef Mengele School of Physical Therapy. The appointment lasted for about 15 minutes before I couldn’t take any more.
As I was leaving, one of the other therapists came over and told me to just put heat on it as much as I can and take the muscle relaxers. I’m going to go sit in the hot tub at the YMCA a little later as that seemed to help the last time.
I did get told by the other therapist to take it easy on the bike riding, So I guess I will be on foot for a while. This is one of those times when I really miss having my car.
Today has been one of those days where anything at all that could possibly go wrong it did. A couple of days ago I started having all kinds of trouble with the website. The first thing I did was go and check the PHP version that I was running. My host has a tendency to change versions on me for reasons that I can’t ever figure out. I was running the most stable current version of v7.3. When I checked I found they had changed me to a beta version. I changed it back and things seemed to settle down for a while.
This morning I logged into the backend of my site. I was planning to make a post. I went into the posts section and my heart almost stopped. All 173 posts were gone. They were displaying perfectly on the main page, but in the posts section they were gone.
I updated a plugin last night before I went to bed. That was the bug that bit me. I went into the plugins section and tried to deactivate the plugin, but none of the links worked. So I did the next best thing. I logged into the FTP server and deleted the plugin manually. I went back to the plugins page and refreshed. Only 3 of my 37 plugins showed up on the page. I went back to the post section, but there was still nothing there.
I had been clearing all of my caches as I went, but nothing seemed to help.
Needless to say, I lost the whole shebang again today. If this happens again I’m going to just shut it down. The only reason I’m staying with them now is that money is tight and my hosting is paid up for the year. Otherwise I would have closed the site this morning.
Sometimes I think this site is haunted . . . I’m really starting to wonder. . .
I’m rebuilding the site with the most current version of the Divi theme. I actually purchased a new theme this morning. The author of the theme is pushing it as one of the best image and video sharing themes available for WordPress. The theme is called Gags and it’s a piece of crap.
Hello and welcome to my blog! Blacky's Burrow is my personal blog about me and my best friends Misty and Johnny. These are the atypical day to day antics of a crazy cat person and a Rose-Point Siamese cat that's just a little crazier.
