Thankfully the sciatica is finally starting to pass. I can finally get up off the couch or out of a chair without fighting.
I got a ride over to the clinic this morning to get checked again. The doctor poked and prodded at my back for a few minutes and then told me that I had sciatica. I told him that I already knew that. Then he turned me over on my side and did some more poking and prodding. I think he finally quit when he got the idea that in a minute I was going to put him in as much pain as I was feeling.
By the time I was finished, he gave me a prescription for some muscle relaxers and suggested that I go to physical therapy 3 days a week for an hour for the next three week. I suggested that I go once a week. These doctors really go overboard with physical therapy. The last time that I went through physical therapy like he first suggested, I was flat on my back for almost 3 weeks.
He sent me right over to the physical therapy department for the first appointment. I have no doubt that the therapist got her training at the Josef Mengele School of Physical Therapy. The appointment lasted for about 15 minutes before I couldn’t take any more.
As I was leaving, one of the other therapists came over and told me to just put heat on it as much as I can and take the muscle relaxers. I’m going to go sit in the hot tub at the YMCA a little later as that seemed to help the last time.
I did get told by the other therapist to take it easy on the bike riding, So I guess I will be on foot for a while. This is one of those times when I really miss having my car.
Thanks for the update, Chris. I’ve had this and physical therapy really helps. I’m a big believer in physical therapy, but you have to find a good one. There are lots out there that are not that great.
Have a fabulous day. 🙂

The physical therapy usually does help, but they always seem to send me to the therapist whose co-workers call her “Marta the Monster”. She starts out at the top of the pain spectrum and works her way up from there. The last time I had to see her, I felt worse than I did from the sciatica. I’m guessing that she was probably a pro wrestler before she became a therapist.
